PS ANNE WANG'OMBE INAUGURATES THE GENERATION EQUALITY KENYA STREERING COMMITTEE

The State Department for Gender Principal Secretary Anne Wang'ombe officially inaugurated the Generation Equality Kenya Steering Committee, a multi-sectoral oversight committee that will provide a comprehensive guidance and leadership to accelerate the implementation of Kenya's Generation Equality commitments in the GBV Action Coalition up to 2026.
The steering committee brings together state and non-state actors and is a fulfillment of the country's GEF commitment to institutionalize and execute the Gender-Based Violence Action through structured national and county government leadership.
PS Anne Wang'ombe while opening the meeting called for the localization of the GEF commitments to the grassroots to fast track their implementation. This she said as she highlighted the great milestones achieved with the support of partners. 
The PS called upon the Steering Committee to work together and map out strategies implementing the 12 GEF Commitments.
"Your continued support and engagement will see us achieve all the 12 commitments to the full as we strive towards achieving gender equality leading to sustainable development where everyone will feel safe," said PS Wang'ombe.
Also present was State Department for Social Protection Principal Secretary Joseph Motari who is a champion for the fight against Gender Based Violence. The Equality Now Country Director Faiza Mohammed, was also present and she called on the Committee to rally on the power of collective, concrete action plans and use of relevant tools to effective monitor and evaluate GEF programs.
The Steering Committee has representation from UN Women, CCGD, The National Gender and Equality Commission-Kenya, National Police Service Commission, Kenya, Ministry of Health, KEPSA Foundation, and the State Department for Foreign Affairs among others.
