PS Anne Wang'ombe poses with ASOK Executive Secretary Sr. Pasilisa Namkoye during the courtesy call

PS Wang'ombe hosts the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya

Our Principal Secretary Anne Wang'ombe hosted the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya led by the Executive Secretary Sr. Pasilisa Namkoye who paid a courtesy call to the State Department for Gender headquarters on Teleposta Towers.
The Association presented their Memorandum on Gender Based Violence to the PS and recommended that the President William Samoei Ruto declare GBV a National Disaster. They lauded the government's efforts to have a Convicted Sexual Offenders Electronic Register in fulfillment of the Sexual Offences Act of 2006 as it will ensure easy access to information on convicted sex offenders for relevant authorities.
The Association pushed for the setting up of a register for all perpetrators of Gender Based Violence in all Administrative locations and Police divisions to identify and deter repeat offenders.
The PS said that the government through its Constitution safeguards women's rights against all forms of Gender Based Violence.
PS Wang'ombe also informed the Association that the State Department has a fully fledged Directorate handling Gender Based Violence that focuses on coordinating GBV programmes, facilitating access to quality and comprehensive support services and improving sustainability of GBV prevention and response interventions.
The Directorate, she said, is also working on setting up Gender Violence Protection Centers and Safe Houses that will be anchored in the Gender Bill that is still in the drafting stage.
