Anne Njoki Wang’ombe was sworn in as Principal Secretary, State Department for Performance and Delivery Management in the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, on 4th July 2023.

A human resource practitioner and an educationist with vast experience spanning over three decades in business development and capacity building, Ms Wang’ombe is passionate about talent management, coaching and nurturing teamwork.

Before taking her new role as Principal Secretary in President William Ruto’ government she was Assistant Director of Human Resources and Administration at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) where she revamped the organisation’s human resource function by developing and implementing human resource policies.

Delicately navigating the tough task of providing guidance and direction on HR functions and ensuring quality performance by the organisation, Ms Wang’ombe was the focal point in KEMRI, liaising with Government ministries and departments on matters concerning human resource management and providing administrative guidance on interpretation and implementation of labour laws while managing organisational human resource capital through regular skills development, to ensure that the organisation achieved its goals and targets by tracking performance and undertaking periodic performance evaluation and staff appraisal.

But that is not all. The Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology alumnus was a part-time lecturer at Kenya Methodist University, where she distinguished herself as indefatigable lesson planner and lecturer in Education Management and Business Administration studies. Prior to that, she was head of department at Kagumo Teachers College and Kerugoya Boys High School. In both institutions, she successfully designed and implemented learning programmes that ensured that teaching methods were aligned to the national education curriculum. Ms Wang’ombe is a devout Catholic.
