Kenya Music and Cultural Festival

The Kenya Music and Cultural Festival is one of the flagship programmes of the Department of Culture, in the Ministry of Gender, Culture, The Arts and Heritage. The festival, held annually, brings together all communities in Kenya showcasing the diversity of the Kenyan cultural expressions including music, dance, drama, chants, oral traditions, artifacts, crafts, traditional foods and indigenous practices. It is held for 8 days in the last week of November and the first week of December. The 2024 festival will be the 97th edition since its inception in 1926.

Organization of the Festival

The Kenya Music and Cultural Festival is organized by the Department of Culture with the support of the Festival National Executive Committee and County Governments. The membership of the National committee is drawn from experts in the different genres of cultural expressions including music, drama, theatre, film and visual arts and come from both professional organizations and the communities.
